Tiger 100 (T100SS)

This model created a new evolution of sports machines which would last for eight years, and was the first C class machine not to debut with the bathtub fairing. Instead the UK model had the new 'bikini' fairing, a separate chrome headlamp rather than the nacelle, and a slim front mudguard rather than the roman helmet design whereas in the US the fairing was dropped altogether. It wasn't until the 1964 model that the UK version lost its fairing.

The model went by a number of different names in the literature - the T100S/S or T100S in the UK and the T100S/R or T100R (Sports/Road) in the US. Generally the sporting single-carburettor 500cc model was known as the T100SS.

It was lighter than the T100A that it evolved from which provided increased performance over that model, but over time the bike got heavier until in 1970 it was 161kg; though still lighter than the T100A. One of the causes of this increase in weight was the introduction of a twin leading show front drum brake in 1969.
