Coventry Moto fest went very well despite the poor weather forecast. I arrived early on Priory Street half expecting to be the only one to turn up, given the rain. But everybody who said they’d come did; some riding their Coventry bikes in the wet and some trailering them. We also had a good number of Meriden and one Hinckley bikes brought along by the Meriden branch who did a great job supporting the stand.

In the end, instead of having separate displays, we put all the bikes together. Coventry bikes were separated by a small gap from the others. Having them together proved to be useful when explaining the genealogy and development of the bikes.
We only had my small gazebo and unfortunately that lasted about half an hour before a strong gust of wind broke it, so from then on we were at the mercy of the rain with just the protection of a tree, but thankfully aside from a few showers the rain stayed away.
The location of Priory Street meant that we were at the edge of the events but next to us was a huge display of Jaguar XJ 40s and that brought people to us and we had plenty of really good conversations with them. It was ironic that I was told that we couldn’t have millennium place because the Jaguar guys were going to be there, and as it turned out they weren’t and a couple of the organisers did come down and asked if we wanted to move to millennium place. We would have had to have gone down there by the road system which none of us wanted to do. That said, next year I feel we need to be more central: it was great to be where the factory was, however to get maximum impact with the public we really need to be in a more central location, either at Millennium Place or up the hill where the other motorbike clubs were.
In conclusion it was a really great first display by the Coventry Bikes section and made all the more special by being where the original factory was.
